...gone to look for America

A diary of a thirty-day odyssey across America in May 2014, eschewing all interstate highways in favor of secondary roads through small towns and villages.

Tuesday, May 13 - Moab to Salt Lake City

5/16/2014

Well, I missed logging this day last night just due to tiredness. So I'm catching up. We left Moab intending to get a quick start towards Salt Lake City after a quick stop at Arches Natl Park. The park was very beautiful in a surreal moon landscape sort of way. Definitely worth the stop. And the Natl Park Service sure has  their act together. They run a first class operation.
We intended to make our lunch stop in Price Utah, but were held up for more than two hours due to an accident-,a FedEx truck rolled over and blocked both lanes of the road. So we sat...and walked around...and talked to other drivers...and got some snacks out of the cridge (that's car fridge for those of you unfamiliar with our name for our wonderful electric cooler). Finally we pulled into Price about mid-afternoon, ready for food. We found a little place downtown called Farlaino's Cafe. What a treasure! Great Italian food, an owned by Helen Crandall, assisted by her sister Trish Frandsen. We ended up spending a couple of hours just enjoying the conversation, and Helen's pics of her trip to Germany. Just threw the schedule totally out the window, but who cares...a enjoyed meeting them.

Finally, on to Salt Lake City. We visited the grounds of the Mormons, seeing the Temple and the Tabernacle. Temple Square is beautifully landscaped, and everyone was very kind. Just not my cup of tea.

We decided to stay outside of the city, so spent the night in Ogden. Also a cute little city with an historical district, not that we partook of it. Wednesday will see us leave Utah and head into Nevada.

I LOVE Arches! Beautiful! Amazing. Spent an entire day there hiking to some of the arches.
